The middleweight division has more plot twists this year than a M. Night Shyamalan movie.
With Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre being canned only weeks ago the current champ was booked to fight arch nemisis and number one contender Yoel Romero. As fate would have it Bisping has now revealed he has been suffering from a lingering knee injury which will mean he is unable to defend his belt anytime soon.
Upon hearing the news UFC President Dana White was quick to throw an interim title shot into the mix in an effort to keep the stalling division, which is packed with talent, moving forward.
“We’re trying to put together that Bisping-Romero fight. If [Bisping] can’t fight this summer, we’ll probably create an interim title between Romero and Robert Whittaker,¨ White told ESPN.
Whittaker has been on a tear of late racking up seven consecutive victories inside the octagon including finishes over the likes of Ronaldo Souza and Derek Brunson. A match up against Romero, which may very well be down under, would no doubt be an unbelievably entertaining showcase of two heavy hitters for fight fans.
